‘Test Event’ for the Tour of the Black Country: revised date
The Tour of the Black Country, which is 100km Roubaix-style cobbled sportive takes place on May 4, starting at Aldersley stadium in Wolverhampton and finishing on the velodrome. 15 unpaved sectors and one monster of a cobbled climb – the ‘Waltonberg’.
Obviously everyone in the club will get a free entry and hopefully as many people as possible will ride it on the day.
Most of the organization has been done already, but to make sure that everything goes smoothly on the day, we are going to hold a sort of ‘test event’ a few weeks in advance. It will basically just be a club ride over the course, starting and finishing at Aldersley. The course will be marked out in advance with arrows and ‘Caution Cycle Event’ signs, etc. so that we can just ride round following the arrows and make sure it’s all clear, and get people’s feedback on how it could be improved (and made safer) before the event itself takes place.
The best date for the test run seems to be Sunday April 13 and we suggest that instead of doing the normal Sunday club run, we all meet at Aldersley Stadium at 8.30am, so that we can be back to watch Paris-Roubaix on TV in the afternoon. It should take around 4 hours.
Feel free to invite anyone else along if you think they might be interested.
