Jackie Fowler joins TheTour21
After Mike Hopkins epic adventure last year riding the 21 stages of the Tour De France in 2021 and helping Cure Leukaemia raise £1,000,000, we have another V-Sprint rider taking on the challenge. After going on a training ride with Mike and Geoff Thomas (the Patron and driving force behind TheTour21 team), Jackie was inspired to apply herself for the 2022 event.
After narrowing down over 130 athletes, some from the US, Jackie was one of the first 17 riders selected to join the team. As a 60 year old Grandmother, Jackie will not only be one of just two women on the team, she will also be the eldest.
Jackie said, “This is a great honour, riding the iconic Tour de France route is a dream for any cyclist, but to be part of such a prestigious team with all that they and Geoff have achieved is just unbelievable, but lets not lose sight of the real reason taking part. £1,000,000 will help so many people who suffer with Leukaemia, raising money for Cure Leukaemia is as important to me as the ride itself.”
And what about the rest of TheTour21 Team…
“We’ve not met yet, but I’m looking forward to meeting them all, each of them looks like they will be great team mates. I hope I don’t let them down they all look like really accomplished cyclists.”
“I hope we get a few more women on the team and that seeing me might inspire more women to apply, anyone interested should apply to THETOUR21 [www.thetour21.co.uk]. I don’t know if I can mange this yet – It’s very daunting, but If I willing to give it a go then anyone can, but don’t put you own ambition in front of the need to raise £1,000,000, YES it is for women, YES it is for women of all ages, but most of all it is for Cure Leukaemia”
And from the V-Sprint Committee … “Knowing Jackie as we do, it is no surprise to see her taking on this challenge, she is always thinking about what she can do for others and how she can help, Its up to us all now to support her in raising that £1,000,000 for Cure Leukaemia”.
“We have every confidence in Jackie, she is an asset to any team, and with our support and that of her THETOUR21 team mates she will smash this. As we say in the club everybody should #BEMOREJACKIE”
